Founded by art dealers in 1988 and run as a non-profit foundation, TEFAF has a proud history of showcasing masterpieces in every category of art and design – from antiques, Old Masters and Haute Joaillerie to contemporary painting, works on paper and 20th-century design. In addition to its annual fair in Maastricht, The Netherlands, TEFAF New York Spring has a focus on modern and contemporary art and design.

The Impressionist and Modern Art auction features an array of paintings, works on paper and sculpture by leading artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A superlative 1932 canvas of Picasso’s sleeping muse, Marie-Thérèse Walter, Le Repos dazzles in a bright palette of verdant greens, crimsons, whites and purples. Other highlights include exemplary Impressionist paintings, a selection of modern sculpture and classic examples of cubist compositions.
In its Contemporary Art auction, Sotheby’s offers a selection of superb examples by some of the most exciting and innovative artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Ranging from masterworks by the leading Abstract Expressionists, whose groundbreaking work in the wake of World War II forever transformed the very possibilities of art, to sculptors expanding the traditional boundaries of three-dimensional space, to a group of trailblazing African-American artists who have donated works to benefit the Studio Museum in Harlem.
